Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
