Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a significant honors show nears, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
