The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
