Team Principal Wolff has guided Mercedes to record-breaking success in F1

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is in advanced talks to offload part of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – a record for a Formula 1 squad – following McLaren were valued at £3.5bn in an adjustment to corporate structure in September.

The Austrian executive, who owns a 33% stake of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a stake in the region of 5%.

The 53-year-old will remain as team boss and chief executive officer should the deal proceed.

Shareholder Structure

Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who both hold a third of the enterprise.

An official representative stated: "We are providing no official statement on the matter. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unchanged, and each shareholder are dedicated to continued achievements of Mercedes-Benz in Formula One."

Financial Increase

This arrangement signifies a significant increase in value of Mercedes F1 since Ineos Group acquired its stake for £208 million in 2022.

The rise demonstrates the expansion in valuations of F1 teams in the past few years due to the growing popularity of the sport around the world.

This was also seen in the success of the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed more than $630m (£458m) at cinemas worldwide.

It is Pitt's most successful movie and the most successful sports movie to date.

Present Standings

The Mercedes team are second in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren, with three Grands Prix left in the current championship.

Their lead driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 races so far and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

Mercedes secured a unprecedented eight consecutive team titles and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 and 2021.
